FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Welcome to the Sojourn FAQ hub: everything you'll want to know about classes, memberships, bookings and studio life, in one place.
Updated May 2026.
Getting started
-
Absolutely. Most of our clients were once brand new to reformer Pilates. You don't need any prior experience to join. Classes are designed to help you build strength, confidence and connection at your own pace, with form, breath and control at the centre of everything.
-
Flow and Pause are both great places to begin. Each one introduces you to the reformer, the Pilates principles and the mind-body-breath connection that underpins all movement at Sojourn.
If you'd prefer a slower-paced session designed for beginners only, our Basics class runs on Sundays at 10am. Smaller groups, slower pacing and dedicated time to learn the reformer.
Once you're confident on the machine, Ignite is our most dynamic class: layered for those ready to step beyond Flow.
If you've been cleared for movement by a doctor, physiotherapist or healthcare professional and Pilates has been recommended as part of your recovery, please book a 30-minute Movement Analysis 1:1 (£20) before joining group classes. See Injuries and Pregnancy below for more.
To enquire about a Movement Analysis, email support@sojournpilates.com.
Classes and Styles
-
Both styles follow the six core Pilates principles: centring (core), concentration, control, precision, breath and flow.
Reformer Pilates uses a spring-resisted reformer bed that provides both support and resistance, helping refine form, build strength and increase stability while adding balance and coordination challenges. Today's reformers carry the same principle the originals did: gentle but deeply effective strength and alignment work.
Mat Pilates uses your own body weight for resistance and develops stability, control and mobility without equipment. Both complement each other, and many people enjoy combining them.
-
Infrared isn't a traditional hot class. The heat comes from gentle infrared panels that warm the body directly rather than heating the air. It feels like natural sunlight, supports circulation, flexibility and recovery, and encourages deep relaxation.
Our infrared classes are set up to 38°C but usually sit around 30°C: warm enough to support your practice but comfortable enough to move with focus and control.
Infrared classes are not suitable during any stage of pregnancy.
-
Infrared classes are included in all memberships and packages.
If infrared isn't your preference, you can skip these classes and stick with the non-heated sessions that make up most of the schedule.
BOOKINGS AND WAITLISTS
-
Purchase any membership or class pack through the Momence website or app. After checkout, your pack or membership activates from the date of your first booked class, which also becomes your monthly renewal date for memberships.
Each option works slightly differently:
Discover: an introductory offer for new clients only. One-time purchase, activates from your first booked class.
Explore: flexible, short-term class packs, valid for 90 or 180 days from your first booking.
Commit: six-month memberships, billed monthly within the term, ending automatically at month six.
To upgrade mid-term, email support@sojournpilates.com. If a payment fails, Momence will retry automatically and email you. After three unsuccessful attempts, your membership will be cancelled.
Full pricing and validity at sojournpilates.com/pricing.
-
Book as soon as your purchase is complete. Log in to the Momence app or website with the email you used at checkout, and select your membership or pack as the payment method.
Bookings open 60 days in advance for Commit members and 30 days for everyone else. You can book up until the class start time.
-
Join the waitlist through Momence. When a spot opens, the first person on the list gets a notification and has 10 minutes to confirm. If they don't, the spot passes to the next person automatically. You're only charged once your spot is confirmed.
-
Commit members: 60 days. Everyone else: 30 days. If you're unsure whether you can attend, hold off booking until closer to the date to avoid cancellation fees.
If a class has two or fewer bookings less than 12 hours before it begins, it may be cancelled. You'll be notified by email or text and your credit returned automatically.
Memberships and Payments
-
Commit and Commit Lite memberships run on a six-month term, billed monthly within that term, and end automatically after six months. No rolling renewal: you'll never be charged beyond month six.
At the end of your term, you can renew, upgrade or step away. To upgrade mid-term, email support@sojournpilates.com.
-
Every Commit membership includes one guest pass a month to share Sojourn with a friend. Use it at the time of booking: tap 'Invite Guests' in Momence and add your guest's email.
Guest passes are valid for one month only and can't be carried over. They work for any group class, subject to availability. Guests must cancel at least 24 hours before class to avoid forfeiting the pass; cancellations within 12 hours also incur a £5 charge.

Discover, Explore and Commit purchases are paid at the time of checkout. Your pack activates only when you book your first class.
For example: if you buy an Explore 5-pack (valid 90 days) in November but don't book your first class until 4 January, your 90 days start on 4 January.
For Commit memberships, your first month's payment is taken at purchase. Subsequent payments are taken on the date of your first booked class each month.
-
Commit memberships are a six-month commitment. If your circumstances change, email support@sojournpilates.com and we'll handle each case individually.

Injuries and Pregnancy
-
If you have an injury, you'll need medical sign-off from your GP or physiotherapist before joining group classes.
Once cleared, please book a 30-minute Movement Analysis 1:1 (£20) before your first group class. This isn't a medical assessment: it lets us observe your movement, understand any guidance you've been given, and confirm which classes are appropriate.
If you're currently managing an injury, a spinal condition (disc herniation, bulging disc, scoliosis), acute back pain, or are pregnant or postpartum without medical clearance, group classes may not be suitable at this time. We recommend speaking with a healthcare professional before booking.
For ongoing rehab needs, private 1:1 sessions are often a better fit than group classes.
To enquire, email support@sojournpilates.com.
-
All prenatal and postpartum clients need medical sign-off before attending classes.
To join group classes, you'll need medical clearance and to wait at least 6-8 weeks after birth (or 12 weeks after a C-section) before booking a 30-minute Movement Analysis 1:1 (£20).
Prenatal clients must complete the 1:1 before attending classes in the second or third trimester.
Infrared classes are not suitable during any trimester of pregnancy.
To book, email support@sojournpilates.com.
CANCELLATIONS AND LATENESS
-
You can cancel any class anytime in the Momence app. Lost credits and a small fee can apply, depending on how close to the class you cancel.
More than 24 hours before class: your credit returns automatically.
Within 24 hours: the credit doesn't return.
Within 12 hours, or a no-show: the credit doesn't return, and a £5 fee applies.
These windows keep the schedule moving and free up space for the next person on the waitlist. If something unavoidable comes up, email support@sojournpilates.com and we'll always look at it case by case.
-
Doors lock at the class start time. If you arrive within 5 minutes, knock and wait quietly: your instructor will let you in when it's safe.
After 5 minutes, entry isn't permitted for safety reasons and to maintain the experience for those already in class. Missing class through lateness counts as a no-show (credit lost plus £5 fee).
Gift Cards
-
Yes. Digital Sojourn gift cards are available here, valid for 12 months from purchase and usable against any class, membership or package on Momence.
When you buy a gift card, it sends immediately. Delivery dates can't be scheduled in advance.
To keep a gift a surprise, purchase to your own account first (don't use it to book classes), then email support@sojournpilates.com when you're ready to transfer it across.
Please note: Discover packages are for new clients only and can't be redeemed by existing members.
Studio and Practical Info
-
Please avoid parking on Fretter Close. We recommend parking on the main road or nearby streets.
The Red Admiral pub car park is available for Sojourn clients before 4pm on weekdays and before midday on weekends. Allow 10 minutes to park and walk in.
-
Grip socks (required for all reformer classes, available in-studio from £5-£15), water, and a small towel for heated classes.
-
Whatever you feel comfortable moving in. Leggings, shorts, oversized tees: all welcome. Form-fitting clothing helps your instructor see your alignment, but comfort comes first. Avoid anything too loose, as fabric can catch in the reformer springs or carriage.
Layers are a good idea for Pause classes or cooler days.
-
We use your phone number, email and the Momence app for all class updates: confirmations, instructor changes, cancellations and waitlist alerts. Please keep your contact details up to date in Momence.
We also send occasional emails about schedule changes, policy updates and studio news, and members receive updates through our community WhatsApp group (details in your welcome email).
