Frequently Asked Questions.

Updated November 2025.

Welcome to our FAQ hub, your go-to guide for how things work at Sojourn. Whether you’re new to Pilates, joining as a member, or just curious about bookings and policies, you’ll find everything you need to know here.

Getting Started

I’m new to Pilates, is Sojourn right for me?

Absolutely. Most of our clients were once brand new to reformer Pilates.

You don’t need any prior experience to join. Our classes are designed to help you build strength, confidence and connection at your own pace. We focus on form, breath and control, and we’ll guide you through everything you need to know.

Which class should I start with?

Flow and Pause are both great options for beginners. Each class introduces you to the reformer, Pilates principles and the mind-body-breath connection that underpins all movement at Sojourn.

If you’d prefer a slower-paced class designed to help you learn the fundamentals and build confidence alongside other beginners, our Basics class (starting January 2026, Sundays at 10am) is a great place to start.

Once you’re comfortable on the reformer, Ignite will eventually join our schedule as a more advanced option for those who want to build strength and endurance through pulses, holds and dynamic sequences.

We also offer infrared versions of Flow and Pause, held at temperatures up to 38°. The warmth feels gentle and sun-like rather than hot or humid, helping to support circulation, recovery and deep release.

(Infrared classes launching by the end of 2025.)

Before booking, please check the class description carefully to make sure it’s suitable for you.

If you’re rehabbing an injury, managing a spinal condition (such as disc herniation, bulging disc or scoliosis), experiencing acute back pain, or are currently pregnant or postpartum, we recommend booking a 30-minute Movement Analysis 1:1 (£20) before joining.

This session allows us to assess your movement and confirm which classes are safe and beneficial for you. Group classes aren’t suitable for every stage of rehabilitation or recovery — for specific or ongoing rehab needs, private 1:1 sessions may be more appropriate.

To enquire about a Movement Analysis, email support@sojournpilates.com.

How do I buy a membership or class pack?

You can purchase any of our memberships or class packs directly through the Momence website or the Momence app.

Once you’ve chosen your preferred option, follow the checkout steps to complete your purchase.

Your pack or membership will activate automatically from the date of your first booked class, which also becomes your monthly renewal date (for memberships).

Here’s how each option works:

  • Discover — our introductory offer for new clients only. Available as a one-time purchase and valid from your first booked class.

  • Explore — our flexible, short-term class packs that give you freedom without commitment.

  • Commit — our best-value memberships for regular movers. These include a six-month minimum term and end automatically once the commitment period is complete.

All Commit memberships renew automatically each month for six total months and then automatically end. You’re free to upgrade at any time by emailing support@sojournpilates.com. Once your membership has ended, you will need to purchase a new one.

If your payment fails, Momence will retry automatically and send you an email. After three unsuccessful attempts, your membership will be cancelled.

You can browse our full range of memberships and packs — including pricing and validity — at www.sojournpilates.com/pricing.

How do I book classes?

You can start booking as soon as your membership or class pack purchase is complete.

Log in to the Momence app or website using the email you used at checkout. When booking a class, simply select your membership as the payment method — there’s no need to activate anything manually.

Bookings open 60 days in advance for Commit members (30 days for everyone else) and can be made right up until the class start time.

What’s the difference between mat and reformer Pilates?

Both styles follow the six core Pilates principles: centering (core), concentration, control, precision, breath and flow.

Reformer Pilates uses a spring-resisted reformer bed that provides both support and resistance. It helps refine form, build strength and increase stability, while also adding balance and coordination challenges.

The reformer was originally developed by Joseph Pilates to allow hospital patients to perform resistance-based exercise while lying in bed — using bed springs for tension. Today’s reformers still carry that same principle: gentle but deeply effective strength and alignment training.

Mat Pilates uses your own body weight for resistance and develops stability, control and mobility without equipment.

Both complement each other, and many people enjoy combining them for a balanced practice.

We also offer Barre classes, another mat-based option that blends Pilates principles with small, controlled movements inspired by dance. Barre focuses on muscle endurance, posture and mobility, often targeting smaller stabilising muscles. It’s low-impact but high-energy, and a great way to build strength and coordination while maintaining grace and precision.

How does infrared Pilates differ from heated classes?

Infrared Pilates isn’t a traditional “hot” class. The heat comes from gentle infrared panels, which warm the body directly rather than heating the air.

Infrared heat feels like natural sunlight. It helps increase circulation, improve flexibility and support muscle recovery, while also encouraging deep relaxation and mental clarity.

Our infrared classes are set to temperatures up to 38°, warm enough to support your practice but comfortable enough to move with focus and control.

Infrared classes are not suitable during any stage of pregnancy.

(Launching by the end of 2025.)

How do infrared bookings and pricing work?

Infrared classes are automatically included in all memberships and packages, but booking is capped at five infrared classes per month per person to keep availability fair.

If you’d like to attend additional infrared classes, they’re available as one-off sessions for £25 per class for non-members and £20 per class for Commit members.

If infrared isn’t your preference, you don’t need to use your credits toward those classes. Our non-heated sessions remain the core of our schedule.

Injuries and Pregnancy

Can I join classes if I’m injured or rehabbing an injury?

If you have an injury, you must have medical sign-off from your GP or physiotherapist before joining group classes.

If you’re managing a spinal condition, rehabbing an injury or require specific modifications, you’ll also need to book a 30-minute Movement Analysis 1:1 (£20) before attending. This allows us to assess your movement and determine which classes (if any) are suitable.

Please note that completing a Movement Analysis does not guarantee that group classes will be recommended. We may conclude that private 1:1 sessions are a safer and more effective option at this stage of your recovery.

Once you’ve had your 1:1 and we’ve confirmed you’re ready, we’ll guide you towards classes that match your goals and ability.

Email support@sojournpilates.com to ask about our Movement Analysis availability.

Can I join if I’m pregnant or postpartum?

All prenatal and postpartum clients must have medical sign-off before attending any classes.

To join group classes at Sojourn, we require you to receive medical clearance and wait at least 6-8 weeks after birth (or at least 12 weeks after a C-section), before booking a 30-minute Movement Analysis 1:1 (£20).

Prenatal clients must complete their 1:1 before attending classes in the second or third trimester. Please note, infrared (heated) classes are not suitable during any trimester of pregnancy.

During this session, we will assess your needs and goals, as well as brief you on how to adapt exercises safely and which classes will be the most suitable for you.

To book, contact support@sojournpilates.com.

Cancellations, No-Shows and Lateness

What happens if I cancel late or don’t show up?

If you cancel more than 24 hours before class, your credit will be returned automatically.

If you cancel within 24 hours, your credit will be lost.

If you cancel within 12 hours, your credit will be lost and you’ll be charged a £5 fee.

For no-shows, the same applies: credit lost + £5 fee.

These policies keep the schedule fair and ensure other clients have the opportunity to book. If something unavoidable happens, please email support@sojournpilates.com and we’ll do our best to help.

What if I’m running late for class?

Doors lock at the class start time. If you arrive within 5 minutes, please knock and wait quietly. Your instructor will let you in when it’s safe.

After 5 minutes, entry isn’t permitted for safety reasons and to maintain the class experience. If you miss class because of lateness, it will count as a no-show (credit lost + £5 fee).

Waitlists and Bookings

My favourite class is full, what do I do?

You can join the waitlist for full classes through Momence. When a space becomes available, the first person on the list will receive a notification and has 10 minutes to confirm.

If they don’t accept, the spot passes automatically to the next person, and so on. If no one confirms, the space reopens for general booking. You are only charged once your spot is confirmed.

How far in advance can I book?

Bookings are available up to two months in advance through the Momence app or website.

If you’re unsure whether you can attend, we recommend waiting to book until closer to the date to avoid cancellation fees.

Classes can be booked right up until the start time. Please note that if a class has two or fewer bookings less than 12 hours before it begins, it may be subject to cancellation. If this happens, you’ll be notified by email or text, and your credit will be returned automatically.

Memberships and Payments

How do I use my guest pass?

If you’re on a Commit membership, you automatically receive one guest pass per month to share Sojourn with a friend.

Guest passes must be used at the time of booking. Tap ‘Invite Guests’ to add your guest’s email address.

Please note:

Guest passes are valid for one month only and can’t be carried over.

They’re valid for any group class, subject to availability.

Guests must cancel at least 24 hours before class to avoid forfeiting the pass. Cancellations made within 12 hours will also receive a £5 charge.

How do payments and renewals work?

Payments for all one-off, Discover, Explore and Commit packs are taken at the time of purchase.

Your pack activates only when you book your first class. For example, if you buy an Explore 5-Class Pack (valid for 30 days) in November but don’t book your first class until January 4th, your 30 days begin on January 4th.

If you purchase a Commit membership (6-month term), your first month’s payment is taken at purchase. Following payments are taken on the date of your first booked class.

Example:

You buy a Commit membership on November 10th for £90.

Your first class is booked for November 25th.

Your renewal date will then be the 25th of each month, starting November.

If a payment fails, Momence will retry automatically and notify you by email. After three failed attempts, your membership will be cancelled.

How does my membership work?

Commit and Commit Lite memberships run on a six-month term. Your membership auto-renews monthly during that period and ends automatically after six months.

At that point, you can renew, upgrade or pause.

If you’d like to upgrade before your term ends, email support@sojournpilates.com.

Can I cancel my membership early?

Commit memberships are a six-month commitment.

If your circumstances change, email support@sojournpilates.com. We handle each case individually and always aim to support you.

Gift Cards

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes. You can purchase digital Sojourn gift cards online at this link.

Gift cards can be used towards any class, membership or package on Momence. Gift cards of monetary value (not tied to a membership) are valid for 12 months from purchase.

When you buy a gift card or membership and choose to send it to someone, it sends immediately — delivery dates cannot be scheduled.

If you’d prefer to keep it a surprise, purchase the gift card or package to your own account and do not use it to book classes. When you’re ready to transfer it, email support@sojournpilates.com and we’ll issue a digital certificate and move it across.

Please note: Discover packages are for new customers only and can only be purchased once, even when using gift cards.

Studio and Practical Info

Where can I park?

Please avoid parking on Fretter Close. We recommend parking on the main road or nearby streets.

The Red Admiral car park is available before 4pm on weekdays and before 12pm on weekends. Please allow 10 minutes to park and walk in.

What should I bring to class?

Grip socks are required for all reformer classes (available in-studio, styles from £5–£15).

Bring water and, for heated classes, a small towel.

What should I wear to class?

Whatever you feel comfortable moving in. Leggings, shorts, oversized tees — it’s all welcome.

Form-fitting clothing can help your instructor better see your alignment, but comfort is key. Avoid anything too loose or flowy, as fabric can get caught in the reformer springs or carriage.

Grip socks are required for all reformer classes to help with safety, stability and hygiene. You’re welcome to bring your own, or you can purchase a pair in-studio. We have Melisoles socks available in a range of styles, for £15.00 or grip trainer socks available for £5.00.

Layers are a good idea for Pause classes or cooler days.
